A New Way Forward After Grief

Life After Loss: A New Way Forward After Grief

What Life After Loss Means to Me

For me, it is about learning how to live again while carrying what has changed forever.

It is choosing to get up each day, even when it feels heavy.
It is rebuilding something new from a place you never expected to be.

The Moment Everything Changed

On 24 April 2022, I lost my husband to a brain aneurysm.

There was no warning.
No time to prepare.
No chance to say goodbye in the way you would hope.

Just a sudden shift that divided my life into before and after.

Now, nearly four years on, I can say this honestly.
It has been a real test of resilence.

The Truth About Grief

Grief is often described as sadness, but it is so much more.

It can feel like anger.
Like confusion.
Like being left behind in a world that keeps moving.

It can sit quietly in the background or arrive without warning.

There were times I felt completely lost.
Times I questioned everything.
Times I did not recognise myself.

And still, something in me kept going.

Why I Needed Something Different

I understand that traditional support groups help many people.

But for me, revisiting the same emotions week after week did not feel like the right path.
It felt like feeling stuck.

Deep down, I knew that was not the life my partner would have wanted for me.

I needed space to acknowledge what had happened, while also finding a way back to moving forward.

Returning to Purpose in a New Way

Before everything changed, I worked as a wedding planner.

I never expected to return to that world.
Yet somehow, my journey led me back, but in a completely different way.

Now, my work centres around emotional support.
Helping others protect their peace.
Guiding them through moments that feel overwhelming.

What once focused on planning has evolved into something far deeper.

Recognising What Was Missing

As I searched for support, one thing became clear.

There was a gap.

I could not find a space that balanced understanding with gentle progress.
Some places focused heavily on pain.
Others did not feel relatable.

What I needed was simple.
Connection.
Understanding.
And the opportunity to begin again, at my own pace.

A Life That Still Holds Meaning

Why I Created This Community

I recently created a local group for widows and widowers.

Not as a replacement for professional support or  a space centred only on grief.

But as a place where people can connect, talk, walk, and feel understood and live again.

A place where no one has to explain everything. But being present is enough.

Because shared experience creates a different kind of connection.

Making Space for All Types of Loss

Although this group is currently for widows and widowers, I do not believe grief should be limited.

People experience loss in many forms.
A sibling.
A parent.
A close friend.
Or even a life they once knew.

Each experience matters.

In time, I will be creating separate spaces to support different types of loss, so that no one feels excluded.

A Life That Still Holds Meaning

Moving forward does not mean leaving someone behind.

It means carrying their memory in a way that allows you to continue.

It means finding small moments of calm.
Moments of connection.
Moments where you begin to feel like yourself again.

There is still life to be lived.
And it is okay to live it.

Connect with like minded people.

if you are navigating life after losing a partner, you may find comfort in a small community I have quietly created called Life After Loss.

It is a gentle local space for widows and widowers in the Blackheath and Greenwich who may feel ready to reconnect with others who understand through simple walks, coffee meet ups, and shared conversation.

You can learn more about it here:
Life After Loss – A Gentle Space to Reconnect

Life may not look the way it once did.

But something new can still take shape.

Not as a replacement.
But as a continuation.

And even in the most difficult chapters, there is still the possibility of rebuilding something meaningful.
